Employee Classification Workshop:

Exempt vs. Non-Exempt

In 75 minutes, you’ll get expert-led compliance training on:

  • How to correctly classify employees.

From supervisors to part-timers, the important considerations to make when classifying your staff.

  • A self-audit to identify mistakes... and fix them.

What to include in your classification checklist and how to quickly update classifications.

  • What to expect next from the DOL and state wage-and-hour agencies.

New laws are on the way – what to do now to get prepared.

Complex wage-and-hour laws made simple

Employee classification has always been tricky, but when the pandemic sent workers home and employers reduced hours and restructured job descriptions … overtime lines were blurred, and classification mistakes increased. While employers have flexibility in emergencies, a crisis isn’t an excuse for long-term out-of-classification work. It’s no wonder the DOL and state labor agencies continue to collect record-breaking amounts in fines.

On Friday, December 18, get a crash course on classifications and discover if your current setup is at risk – and what to do about it – with the all-new virtual Employee Classification Workshop. Attorney Anniken Davenport, who literally wrote the book on classification and overtime compliance, offers practical, step-by-step compliance advice for your organization.

Agenda for Employee Classification Workshop

  • Check your compliance. Learn how to self-audit for classification errors with a step-by-step plan.
  • Adjusting classifications for teleworkers. Why your plan MUST include virtual desk audits, new job descriptions and a reassessment of exempt vs. non-exempt status for currently exempt and hourly teleworkers.
  • Is management still exempt? Supervisor responsibilities have changed – make sure they still qualify as exempt.
  • Updating job descriptions. Why employees should write their own job descriptions at least once a year – and how management should approve, reject or modify those descriptions to preserve exempt status.
  • Tracking time for all employees. How to correctly clock time for exempt and non-exempt workers– whether they telework, report to an office or work on an intermittent leave schedule.
  • The PTO misstep. Why the way you pay (or don’t pay) your employees for breaks, days off and short-term shutdowns can destroy exempt status.

Interactive Q&A time included

In addition to providing training, Anniken will be answering your questions about employee classification in the dedicated Q&A time.
