Overlapping Leave Laws:
Navigating State-by-State Family Leave
How to comply when paid sick laws vary by state
In this 75-minute interactive online training, you will learn how to:
Adjust workplace policies to manage the different benefits employees are entitled to under the varying state laws.
Enforce your key obligations with respect to paid family leave in each of the states providing for such leave.
Anticipate upcoming changes to existing regulations, and which states plan to pass laws beyond the FMLA.
Paid Family and Medical Leave: A Multi-State Update
Paid family leave has gained momentum in many states, and many of these laws impose obligations well beyond those imposed by the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). For those of you with employees in more than one state, the myriad of obligations increases exponentially—especially in the wake of the pandemic.
Currently, 12 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, have passed paid family and medical leave laws. That number is expected to increase, and the states with laws already on the books continue to make changes. For example, New York state recently amended its paid family leave law in place since 2018.
Now is the time to anticipate the changes you may need to make to your existing policies to either comply with existing laws or get ahead of your obligations should paid family and medical leave arrive in your jurisdiction.
