Employers need to take poster compliance seriously. Posting requirements are changing constantly, in part because the pandemic triggered more state and local employment laws. In just the first couple months of 2022 alone, employers faced more than 20 state-law poster changes.

It’s not just the FMLA and minimum wage. You may have to display a half-dozen federal posters, up to 15 state-specific postings, up to 10 additional local postings, and several industry-specific postings. No two states have the same requirements. And new U.S. Department of Labor rules say you sometimes must send all these notices to your remote employees. 

Poster violations result in more than just a slap on the wrist. For example, an OSHA poster violation can trigger fines up to $13,653 per violation, with fines doubling in recent years.
